House Sitting in Cayman During Hurricane Season: A Checklist

Many Cayman residents travel in the summer, right in the middle of hurricane season, which runs from June to November. A house sitter keeps your home lived-in and checked, but it pays to agree the details before you leave.

What a house sitter can do

A house sitter stays in your home, collects mail, waters plants, keeps the place lived-in and secure, and looks after your pets on their usual routine. They can also spot problems early, such as leaks, power cuts or a fridge that has stopped working.

Agree your storm plan in advance

Write down what you would like to happen if a storm is forecast: where the shutters are and whether they should go up, which outdoor furniture to bring inside, where the emergency supplies are kept, and who to call for help. Agree when the sitter should leave for a shelter or safer location, because their safety comes first.

Checklist to leave for your sitter

Emergency contacts and a neighbour's number. Location of the main water valve, breaker box and torches. Wi-Fi password and alarm codes. Pet food, medication and vet details. Rubbish and recycling days. Any appliances that need special care.

Common questions

Can a house sitter look after my pets too?

Yes. Attentive Angels combines house sitting and pet sitting, so your pets stay at home on their normal routine while you travel.
